Providing Quality Live Entertainment for the Monterey Peninsula

Hello Good People Everywhere -- getting excited about Christmas! After 14 years, I’m bringing Greg ’back to Ohio’ to meet my big gigantic family next week so I hope they like him! When we return back to CA our kids are coming from Portland and L.A. with their boyfriends - very excited about having everyone I love nearby so I can physically make contact and hug them and look in their eyes and laugh wholeheartedly together. There have been many holidays without those near and dear so to be with family, old friends, kids and pets is really what makes Christmas so blessed for us = and let us not forget the reason for the season Baby Jesus.

I can’t help but think of all of the people that have lost their homes, pets, belongings in recent fires. I hope our combined efforts to raise money last Saturday will make a big difference for some families in Paradise, what a difficult reality to bear. My hat goes off to Mo at Planet Gemini, Troy O’Shann, KC and so many people and musicians who all worked together to create one outstanding day and night of music! I even saw a rainbow outside the venue so like wow! When we work together, its a mighty powerful thing.

Do check out the December line up at various venues. This Friday, my band Fields of Eden will be playing at Chamisal’s Courtside Bistro from 6-8, free of course, and Sat. night our trio is at the Trailside Cafe from 6-9. No cover.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE 2019? I’m stoked our band "Fields of Eden featuring The Wowettes" will be performing at First Night Monterey at the fabulous new Portola Conference Center. Get your tickets now and save money, details below!

The link of the week is a hat’s mistaken identity for a flower! Sensational footage. Have a playful week and thanks again for your great support.

7 Dec 2018 ~ Fri
7:00 pm - 9:00pm
Tom Lawson
Planet Gemini
2110 N. Fremont Street in Seaside
Blues Piano Man

Tom plays so well its in his blood. His blood is blue through and through. He makes you feel what he’s singing and playing - a true gem of a musician and I’m honored to call him my friend.

About: Tom Lawson, although known primarily as keyboardist/vocalist with Monterey area bands such as Blues at Eleven, strips the music down to the core of the blues experience with his solo piano and vocal performance. The music is selected from the birth of recorded blues in the 1920s onward, but it is more than just a history lesson. Each song tries to capture the emotion of the original performance and to involve the listener in the story that each song tells. Tom says,"It is one thing to play the notes but to communicate emotion demands more. I hope to do this every time I am in front of an audience."

8 Dec 2018 ~ Sat
7:00 pm - 9:00pm
Dan Beck
Planet Gemini
2110 N. Fremont Street in Seaside
Fantastic Guitarist

Dan stands out in a crowd - not only from his height but his style. He’s a great guitarist and writes some pretty awesome songs.

About: A unique Blue Jazz sound, the Dan Beck & his Band has achieved international acclaim over the past year. A Salinas-based guitarist, singer & songwriter with jazz, blues & a bit of rock in his blood, Dan Beck burst onto the scene after quitting his corporate job in organic produce and founded the Dan Beck Band to follow his passion for music and storytelling. A composer by trade, Beck learned to play classical guitar as a child and has been entertaining crowds ever since he was in college.

14 Dec 2018 ~ Fri
7:00 pm - 9:00pm
Boscoe’s Brood
Planet Gemini
2110 N. Fremont Street in Seaside
He Does It All

Boscoe’s Brood - singer Sam works hard to keep it all going, and it all goes well. This is his debut show at Planet Gemini in the Cafe Room - although its a Cafe Room, they serve liquor and I know you will enjoy his song selection and stories about the songs.

About: BOSCOE’S BROOD (aka Sam Regalado) earned his musical stripes in the Los Angeles coffee house, bar and nightclub scene. Weaned on the music of The Beatles, his tastes and songwriting style eventually expanded and came to include progressive, alternative, harmonic and pop genres; those that today he blends into a creative acoustic sound. Many of his songs are often windows designed to observe the often-quirky lives and habits of everyday people. A veteran road warrior, Boscoe’s Brood has amassed considerable performance miles from San Diego through Seattle, having serenaded music lovers throughout the west with his with guitar, loop, . . . Country Western Style

This is one rockin’ country western singer. You will love this guys, his songs and delivery. He’s a great guitar player and will make you want to ride a horse, or a bull, or shine your boots.

About: A native Californian Robert Elmond Stone grew up on the road, a military brat in air force. `Used sing some of these old songs as a youngster with his mom. His father was big on jazz and classical so he grew up with lots of musical influences and began playin` young. Much music in the house. He rediscovered his musical roots and heritage one day when he just happened to sing some old country tune and " Whoa, that felt right, just fell into place". Been singin country music ever since.

Lots of energy and great music for sure. The cause: To help the fire victims of Paradise. I was stoked to see how many people participated in making this a stellar event.

Planet Gemini Under New Management
Planet Gemini is under New Management now and Mo is in charge! He also handles the bookings at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz. This venue is staged for the best concerts and live music venue in this area.

There are two different rooms there - the Lounge is in the front for solos/duos/trios singer/songwriters and the other big room in the back is for rock n roll, reggae and dance bands. Really great venue with plenty of free parking in the rear of the building. With Monterey limited in live music venues, I do hope you will stop in to say Hello to Mo. This is THE BEST Advice Ever
Give this list to all of your kids and their kids.

I was going to take this list off since I had it last week - but its so important I thought I’d leave it in again. One read isn’t enough.

A film about Music in and Freedom of Expression
Stronger Than Bullets, is a film about a unexpected music "explosion" in Libya during the Arab Spring. This story documents the genesis of a counter-culture, a "mini-Woodstock", as musicians wrote and performed original songs supporting the revolution. The film won Best Documentary Feature at the 2016 Woodstock Film Festival and Best Soundtrack at the 2017 Seeyousound International Music Film Festival in Turin, Italy. A synopsis of the film is below: Libya 2011. A defiant music scene erupts during the revolt against Gaddafi. As the Revolution rages around them, musicians capture the hearts of the people, and strike a chord for free . . . More »     Watch the trailer

Accepting Vocal Students for CV Singers
Vocal coach and teacher Anne Burleigh is now accepting vocal students for the Carmel Valley Singers. All of her students, including myself, absolutely love her teaching style and appreciate what she has done for us. I can speak personally that my voice has changed so much for the better. She has taught me so much about my breathing and support and has made this journey more fun that I could imagine. I’m singing songs I never thought I could sing. If you are desiring to have some great fellowship with some awesome women, this is a great group to be with. Call Anne Burleigh at 831-233-8308

Can You Help A Fellow Musician in Need?
Many of you have been asking for a Wes update, and we’ll address that after a brief funding plea. Our bald bro’s docs are see-sawing on the direction that his treatment will take thus drawing out the process which concerns Wes due to the increased time he will be off work. While we have hit our goal (and a little then-some) we are hoping to add to the pot to cover the unexpected treatment time and other unforeseen expenses. As before, if you can think of anyone who might be willing to help out, please forward this to them, using this link: https://www.gofundme.com/a-little-help-for-wes.
