Providing Quality Live Entertainment for the Monterey Peninsula

Hello Good People Everywhere - sending you some good vibrations wherever you are and whatever you are going through. Always remember íhills and valleys, hills and valleysí - it helps you get through the next hump.

This Saturday night at 8PM, Iím singing with The Wowettes at Caffe Trieste! Love these harmonizing beauties. We are sharing the night with the talented Bethany Ramirez, who is opening for us. Hope you can swing by and hear some of my original songs with these amazing voices. The harmonies are like - wow - feels miraculous to me.

I am excited to be working with First Night Monterey with their talent booking as well as special events at The Monterey Beach House which are both my current musical focus.

The link of the week is a clip of me singing an Italian opera song written in the mid 1500s - not the way I normally sing but that was the challenge of this assignment by our vocal coach, Anne Burleigh. She said it was the vocal spinach of singing. Have a playful week and thanks again for your great support.

About: Bethany promises a soulful experience with her unique sounds of guitar and vocals. This is a BLUEGRASS night with a wonderful local band, Hilltown. Itís been awhile since Iíve seen/heard them but they sure are a crowd-pleaser.

About: Named after the little town that grew out of the well traveled Salinas river fording site of the mid 1800s, the newly formed four-piece bluegrass band Hilltown is sure to get your toes a tapping. All of the band members live in the Monterey area; three on hills overlooking the bay and the other just across from the old Hilltown site in Salinas--hence the name. Three of the band members, also of the venerable Fog Valley Drifters based mainly in Modesto, were looking for a way to stay in practice locally and invited guitar flat picker par excellence and singer Norm Green to join in. As happens with a lot of bands, things clicked an . . . More »

Outstanding Duo

These two met online - they’ve been gigging together ever since. It was a match made ’online’ and its the gift that keeps on giving. They have made several CDs already and tour the world. Don’t miss their performance of their new songs on their newest CD.

About: Meeting via a chance YouTube sighting and fueled by a rare musical chemistry, Dan Frechette, guitar/vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin/vocals, both powerful and magnetic talents in their own rights, prove that musical magic is not only possible, but alive and well. In a relatively short time frame, the Alt-folk duo has overcome adversity to circumnavigate North America, logging over 25,000 miles, 130 concerts, and releasing their debut CD. With influences ranging from Folk, Classical, Old Time, and Celtic, to Gospel, Jazz, Vintage Country, Rock N` Roll, Blues, and Bluegrass, Dan and Laurel flow seamlessly through genres, tempos, . . . These Brothers have a GREAT band and they sounds fantastic as a duo too. You won’t be disappointed and will no doubt become a fan.

About: The Rayburn Brotherís Band, with their rough-hewn folk-rock sound, is comprised of gifted singer songwriter Craig Rayburn, a well-seasoned musician with a powerful voice and lyrics, and brother Keith Rayburn, also a talented singer songwriter, who brings his stellar dobro and slide guitar playing to the mix. The Rayburn Brothers voices blend and intertwine as only brothers can, with graceful harmonies and poignant singing. Deftly combining acoustic and electric instruments, they play songs ranging from heart-rending ballads to foot stomping rockers. They each bring their particular style to the mix, creating a soulful and eclectic m . . . More »

A film about Music in and Freedom of Expression
Stronger Than Bullets, is a film about a unexpected music "explosion" in Libya during the Arab Spring. This story documents the genesis of a counter-culture, a "mini-Woodstock", as musicians wrote and performed original songs supporting the revolution. The film won Best Documentary Feature at the 2016 Woodstock Film Festival and Best Soundtrack at the 2017 Seeyousound International Music Film Festival in Turin, Italy. A synopsis of the film is below: Libya 2011. A defiant music scene erupts during the revolt against Gaddafi. As the Revolution rages around them, musicians capture the hearts of the people, and strike a chord for free . . . More »     Watch the trailer

Can You Help A Fellow Musician in Need?
Many of you have been asking for a Wes update, and weíll address that after a brief funding plea. Our bald broís docs are see-sawing on the direction that his treatment will take thus drawing out the process which concerns Wes due to the increased time he will be off work. While we have hit our goal (and a little then-some) we are hoping to add to the pot to cover the unexpected treatment time and other unforeseen expenses. As before, if you can think of anyone who might be willing to help out, please forward this to them, using this link: https://www.gofundme.com/a-little-help-for-wes.
