Bicultural musical traveler GOH KUROSAWA, based in Los Angeles (raised in Japan), is a composer-producer-singer with a sophisticatedly cool solo guitar style. He is blessed with dedicated fans in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, US West Coast, and beyond. Unplugged, he embraces a single guitar to create drum beats, percussive grooves, bass lines, and memorable melodies all at the same time; as an electric `pedalist` he tweaks, bends, and twists soundscapes. Emphasizing honest musical emotions, his original material is influenced by everything from Paco de Lucia to Western jazz-genres to Jeff Beck. Scott Yanow (journalist for AllMusic & LA Jazz Scene) expresses: "Goh Kurosawa`s music is beyond any simple classification. The guitarist improvises melodically, is open to the influences of pop, rock, flamenco, classical, Latin and Japanese music, and has his own musical identity. Equally skilled on electric and acoustic guitars, he has mastered tapping and sometimes uses electrical devices to create a wide range of sounds yet is not shy to embrace a pretty melody; personable and eager to talk about his music and guitar tunings between songs, Goh put on a warm and entertaining show. His set included Bob Marley`s No Women No Cry, My Family My Friends (original), a Japanese folk song, Leonard Cohen`s Hallelujah (which he sang) and parts of a suite he recently composed." Encouraged by Mom and Dad, little Goh began attending classical music concerts every other month; at age five, he watched Yo-Yo Ma perform with the St. Louis Symphony. After countless years of piano lessons with teachers including his mother and grandmother, he finally had the opportunity to pick up the guitar in high school. During those teen years his focus was to serve as director/conductor for the school`s Mandolin Guitar Orchestra. At a state competition, his masterful skills made such an impression on the judges that they created, on the spot, a `Best Conductor` award for his outstanding performance. Witnessing their son`s milestone that day, somehow his parents understood that Goh was an original and was destined to become a professional musician. In 2013 in The City of Angels, Goh with his colleagues launched BRILLIANT STRINGS, a globally recognized music gathering. The world-class monthly series is open to all ages. Performers include master musicians, global instrumentalists, live painters, creative dancers, and Grammy winners/nominees. To catch the next installment, go to BrilliantStrings.org.
