Piano Classics

Michael Martinez was born in 1990 and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, in the beautiful town of Pacific Grove, California. Michaelís musical ability was quite evident at an early age. By twelve, he was composing beautiful melodies on a small keyboard and it was at this time that he began his first piano lessons. At age 13, Michael was introduced to famed local pianist and composer, Jonathon Lee . Michael studied under Jonathon Lee for one year. In 2004, Jonathon Lee formally introduced Michael Martinez to the community by holding the 2004` `Lover`s Point Concert` at Lover`s Point Park in Pacific Grove. Hundreds of Jonathon Lee`s fans attended the concert to watch young Michael Martinez play many of Jonathon`s compositions along with his own, for Jonathon Lee was no longer able to play the piano because of failing health. It was also at this time that Jonathon Lee announced to the public that Michael Martinez would take his place as the new Grand Piano Man for the 2005 Big Sur International Marathon, serenading runners at the famous Bixby Bridge Location. After the death of Jonathon Lee in 2004, Michael Martinez continues to carry on the tradition as Big Sur International Marathon`s Grand Piano Man, playing for runners on the nine foot concert grand piano at the famous Bixby Bridge turnout. In 2012, Michael released his first CD entitled, Big Sur Reminiscence. The album is dedicated to Jonathon Lee and his legacy at the marathon, and all of the runners. Michael resides in Monterey working from his studio on various projects for musicians, and giving piano lessons. Michael is also active in the community, playing at festivals and private functions, and also is the current music director for The Center for Spiritual Awakening. Michael is currently working on his latest CD, comprised of all originals, plans to be released later this year.
