Laurel Thomsen & Dan Frechette

Dan Frechette & Laurel Thomsen:
What do you get when you combine the forces of a mesmerizing and soulful classically trained violinist and a prodigious and prolific Canadian singer/songwriter who met via the internet?

She hails from the coastal beauties of Monterey, CA, began teaching and performing professionally as a teenager, and has performed and recorded with ensembles ranging from orchestras to singer-songwriters and tribute bands. He hails from the rocky and remote reaches of the Canadian Shield and was signed to a major publishing company as a prolific teenager who’d already penned a remarkable 500 songs, now numbering upwards of 1300.

Dan has recorded 13 solo albums and many of his songs have been covered successfully by other artists, including Canada’s The Duhks, "You Don’t See It", Australia’s The Ploughboys, "Who Will Take My Place?", and Ireland’s Dervish, "My Bride And I". These masterfully crafted songs moved a reviewer for Sing Out Magazine to declare Dan "one of the most talented singer-songwriters I’ve heard in a long time." (Mike Regenstreif, Vol. 49 #3 page 136, Fall 2005, Sing Out magazine).
Laurel performs and records across a variety of genres, founded the Violin Geek Podcast, has sustained a private lessons studio since 1996, is a regular contributor to Strings magazine, and authored Improve Your Bowing Technique, available through String Letter Publishing.

Though based over 2,000 miles apart, the duo found a way through the Fall of 2012 to foster their musical synergy and will be touring together in 2013. Dan and Laurel bring a joy to music and power to phrases that move listeners, reminding audiences that the best moments in music (and in life) are full of surprises.
