Mark Shilstone is recovering from illness so Rod and Chris will be performing instead. You will be hearing sax/trumpet and some funky jazzy stuff - very confident you will love it.
About Shilstone & Wilson
Between them, Mark Shilstone and Rod Wilson have more than a century’s worth of experience as musicians. Mark has fronted numerous rock and roll bands over the years and as a solo musician has opened for the likes of John Sebastian (The Lovin’ Spoonful) and Roger McGuinn (The Byrds). Rod, a percussionist who started playing drums in the 6th grade, is a fixture on the rock scene here on the Monterey peninsula, and along the way has opened for a number of headliners including Eric Burdon and the Animals, Cold Blood, Billy Preston and Tower of Power, just to name a few.
Although they never met until both had lived here on the peninsula for years, they both grew up and started their musical careers in the 60’s in Redwood City. Their sets reflect that history – tunes by groups from the 60’s and early 70’s make up a good portion of their song list: The Beatles, Crosby/Stills/Nash and Young, Paul Simon, James Taylor and on and on. And they pride themselves in playing ones you don’t often hear – for every Hey Jude or Let it Be you also get a She’s Leaving Home or A Day in the Life.
But although their musical roots go all the way back to the Summer of Love in 1967, they also play a number of originals and songs by a number of contemporary artists – it’s not all a trip down memory lane! And the unique blend of guitar, voice and percussion make for some exciting and unique arrangements of a lot of your favorites.
You can also catch Mark and Rod as part of the local classic rock group, Generation Gap. Either way, they love to have a good time and are dedicated to making sure you have one as well.
